Discover the Heart of Speelmanskop: The Regenerative Pecan Orchard

The highlight of any visit to Speelmanskop is our Regenerative Pecan Orchard—a vibrant, living ecosystem that demonstrates how high-value farming can be achieved without relying on costly inputs.

Instead of intensive inputs, we harness free natural resources like sunlight, water, and air to power our orchard and animals. Trading at over 100 times the value of Karoo veld, our orchard is designed to optimize every inch of land and energy, producing exceptional results through nature-positive farming.

Over 30 species of edible plants thrive under irrigation, transforming sunlight into carbohydrates and building rich organic matter. This abundance fuels a healthy environment for our beef cattle, sheep, honeybees, and laying hens—all contributing to a closed-loop system that produces premium beef, lamb, honey, and our famous Heavenly Eggs.

Visitors often leave with fresh ideas and renewed inspiration on how to maximize small irrigated plots or larger fields using regenerative methods.

See it for yourself

Whether you’re just exploring or already practicing sustainable agriculture, our orchard will open your eyes to the future of ecosystem-based farming. Come see how smart design, biodiversity, and regenerative practices work in harmony to build soil, improve yields, and create truly resilient, high-value farms.

AMP Grazing Veld Day

Spring is known to be the most challenging season in the Karoo, as the landscape grapples with the effects of changing weather patterns. We invite you to join us and explore the innovative strategies we employ to sustain our livestock during this critical time, utilizing the abundant historical sunlight that has nourished our land for generations.

Unlock the Secrets of Sustainable Livestock Production with AMP Grazing

At Speelmanskop, we see the Karoo veld not as a challenge, but as an opportunity—a low-cost, high-potential landscape for increased livestock productivity through nature-aligned methods.

By adopting Adaptive Multi-Paddock (AMP) grazing, we’ve tripled our stocking rate on natural veld while restoring the health of our soils and boosting biodiversity. Our method uses short-duration grazing and extended rest periods, allowing the land to recover and regenerate, even on our rugged, mountainous terrain.

To support this, we’ve established a 200-meter interval water pipeline network fed by multiple boreholes, ensuring efficient, consistent water supply. Our portable fencing, troughs, and feeders allow flexible, year-round infrastructure use without disrupting the land with wires or poles.

We measure our progress through Ecological Outcomes Verification (EOV) in partnership with the Savoury Institute, making our improvements tangible and trackable.

AMP Grazing: For Farmers Who Think Ahead

If you’re passionate about veld improvement and ready to adopt regenerative methods that work with nature—not against it—AMP grazing might be your next step.

Whether you’re new to this approach or refining what you already know, our hands-on course provides the knowledge and practical tools to succeed on your own land.
