Discover our Heart for Regenerative Farming
Cultivating a Sustainable Future
Rooted in the Karoo
Speelmanskop Farm is rooted in the Karoo — a landscape shaped by harsh conditions, resilient ecosystems, and generations of farmers who have learned to read the land. Farming here demands more than hard work; it requires careful observation, patience, and a deep respect for how nature functions.
At Speelmanskop we practice regenerative agriculture, focusing on restoring soil health, increasing biodiversity, and strengthening the natural processes that allow the land to thrive.
Rather than trying to dominate the land, we aim to work with it. Through adaptive grazing, regenerative orchard systems, and integrated farming enterprises, we are building a farm that becomes more productive as the ecosystem improves.
Speelmanskop also welcomes farmers to visit through our Farmer’s Days, where these systems can be experienced firsthand and discussed in a practical, open environment.

Our Mission
Revitalizing the Karoo
Our goal is to leave the land better than we found it. By rebuilding soil biology and encouraging diverse plant life, we create a farming system that becomes stronger over time.
Adaptive Multi-Paddock grazing allows the veld to rest and recover between grazing periods, improving both ecosystem health and livestock production.
Our regenerative pecan orchard and livestock work together on the same landscape, demonstrating how integrated farming systems can build a resilient and productive farm.
Our Farmer’s Days provide an opportunity for others to visit Speelmanskop and explore how regenerative farming can be applied in their own environments.
How We Farm
Adaptive Multi-Paddock Grazing
Livestock play a central role in regenerating the Karoo veld. By grazing animals in short periods and allowing plants to recover, AMP grazing improves soil health, supports biodiversity, and strengthens pasture productivity.
Regenerative Pecan Orchards
Our pecan orchard shows how productive farming can work alongside natural ecosystems. Diverse plant life beneath the trees supports soil biology, improves water retention, and creates a healthier environment for crops and livestock.
Integrated Farming Enterprises
At Speelmanskop, livestock, orchards, and pasture-raised hens work together as one connected farming system. This integrated approach strengthens soil health, supports ecosystem function, and helps build resilient farms.
What Our Visitors Say
JM Linstrom
“Ek verstaan AMP grazing na vandag baie beter. Water beplanning is baie meer eenvoudig as wat ek verwag het.”
Wicus Schoeman
“I was challenged during the grass identification section when I realised how little I know about the different grass species of the veld.”
Rheinhard Van Onselen
“The slideshow and staff component were very helpful, as well as seeing how the water system is laid out.”
Visit Speelmanskop and Learn Regenerative Farming in Practice
Speelmanskop regularly hosts Farmer’s Days where farmers can visit the farm, explore our grazing systems, regenerative orchard, and integrated farming enterprises, and discuss practical strategies for farming in the Karoo.
Join us on the farm to see these systems in action and connect with other farmers who are interested in regenerative agriculture.
